About Professor Sina Dorudi

He was previously a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon from 1997 - 2010 at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals and worked in a large and busy group colorectal practice.

He is emeritus Professor of Surgical Oncology and has performed over 800 colorectal resections as a consultant, of which approximately 300 have involved pelvic dissections for both cancer and benign inflammatory bowel disease. He is a fully trained colonoscopist. He qualified at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and has subsequently trained in general and colorectal surgery in Oxford and London and also undertook a specialist colorectal fellowship in Sydney, Australia to obtain particular expertise in bowel cancer surgery. His current practice also includes laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) colorectal resections which he undertakes regularly.

He receives referrals for recurrent colorectal cancer and complex inflammatory bowel disease from England and overseas. Many of these referrals are for pelvic reconstructive procedures following preliminary surgery for inflammatory bowel disease.  He was also a well-established trainer within his NHS practice.

Research Profile
I have a PhD from my research fellowship with Cancer Research UK on aspects of the molecular biology of colorectal cancer. In addition to my busy clinical practice, I jointly run a research program and lead a group comprising both clinical research fellows and scientists. My main areas of research focus on the prediction of tumour biology employing DNA microarrays and the investigation and augmentation of the host immune response in colorectal cancer patients. I have obtained a considerable amount of national and international research funding and my work has won a number of national prizes.
